Food Lion Widens Footprint in Growing South Carolina Area

Food Lion is expanding its presence in the flourishing area of Florence, South Carolina, with the opening of a new store at 1945 W. Palmetto Street. Set to debut on August 7, this location marks the seventh Food Lion in the city. To celebrate, the grand opening will feature a ceremonial ribbon cutting and the first 100 customers will receive mystery gift cards.

The new Food Lion store showcases a larger selection of fresh products and everyday household items, all in a shopper-friendly layout. The store is designed for convenience, providing ready-to-eat, ready-to-cook, and prepared foods, alongside self-checkout options for quick service. A highlight of this location will be its commitment to supporting local producers, featuring seasonal produce from Senn Brothers Produce and unique chicken seasoning from Olde South Brands.

In addition to enhancing product offerings, the store also focuses on sustainability. It will utilize an eco-friendly refrigeration system and LED lighting to reduce energy consumption. Food Lion is also contributing $2,500 to a local food bank through its nonprofit Food Lion Feeds program and will engage in food rescue initiatives to support the community.

The growth in Florence is indicative of a larger trend, as population and tourism in the region continue to rise. Just weeks prior, Food Lion opened another store in Garner, North Carolina, underlining its strategic expansion strategy. With over 1,100 stores across ten southeastern and Mid-Atlantic states and a workforce of over 82,000, Food Lion remains a significant player in the grocery market. Its parent company, Ahold Delhaize USA, ranks as the 11th largest food retailer in North America, recognized for its sustainable initiatives and commitment to local communities.
