Utah Independent Grocer Puts Smart Carts to Work

Shoppers at Davis Food & Drug stores in Utah can now experience a streamlined shopping journey thanks to the introduction of AI-powered Caper Carts. This initiative, stemming from a collaboration with Instacart, is being rolled out across three locations in La Verkin, Roosevelt, and Vernal. The advanced carts empower customers to scan items effortlessly while they shop, significantly reducing checkout time and enhancing convenience.

Constantine Davis, president of Davis Food & Drug, emphasizes that putting customers first is central to their mission. He stated, “Introducing Caper Carts reflects our dedication to not just follow industry trends but to set them.” This innovative move positions Davis as a leader in the grocery sector, aiming to make shopping easier, more rewarding, and more enjoyable.

The grocer’s tech-oriented history is notable; they previously adopted the Rosie online shopping platform in 2016, showcasing their commitment to evolving with technology. Nick Nickitas, general manager of independent grocery at Instacart, highlighted this partnership, expressing excitement about further enhancing customer experience through these smart carts.

Caper Carts are part of Instacart’s broader Connected Stores initiative, which also recently expanded to other grocery retailers nationally. As Davis Food & Drug continues to grow and adapt, this collaboration signals a strong commitment to innovation in the independent grocery space.
