Exclusive: Wasabi's surveillance cloud adoption thrives in APAC Region

Wasabi’s cloud storage solutions are reshaping the surveillance sector across the Asia-Pacific region. With a commitment to simplicity, predictability, and affordability, Wasabi is making significant inroads into an industry traditionally reliant on on-premise systems. Andrew Sandes, the APAC Business Development Director for the surveillance sector, has been pivotal in this transformation since joining Wasabi Technologies in June 2022.

Founded in 2017, Wasabi Technologies offers an innovative alternative to major players like AWS and Azure by providing straightforward cloud storage options. Sandes highlights their unique selling proposition: “Wasabi offers a single tier of cloud storage, which is easy to understand.” This clarity extends to their pricing model, eliminating hidden fees and making Wasabi significantly more cost-effective—up to 80% less than competitors.

The surge in demand for cloud storage in surveillance is backed by research indicating a projected 42% growth rate from 2023 to 2027, contrasting sharply with just 15% for on-premise systems. An example of Wasabi’s impact is its collaboration with Visium Networks. This partnership has enabled clients in the logistics sector to comply with stringent regulations by efficiently storing 30 days of CCTV footage off-site.

Wasabi’s strategy focuses on fostering partnerships with local distributors, ensuring its solutions integrate seamlessly with third-party applications. Looking forward, Sandes anticipates ongoing expansion driven by sustainability initiatives and the industry’s shift to cloud storage, safeguarding its position as a leader in the surveillance market. With its dedicated approach and innovative offerings, Wasabi is poised to influence the future of cloud storage in APAC.
