Logicalis Reports Strides in Emissions Cuts & Sustainability Targets

Logicalis, a prominent global technology service provider, has made notable advances in its sustainability initiatives as detailed in its Responsible Business Report for 2024. This report serves as a testament to the company’s commitment to minimizing its environmental footprint, showcasing a significant 27% reduction in scope 1 emissions and a 17% decrease in market-based scope 2 emissions since the financial year 2022.

These accomplishments come on the back of the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) officially approving Logicalis’s ambitious net-zero emissions targets earlier this year. With a clear focus, the company aims to cut its absolute scope 1 and 2 greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by 50% by 2030, with an ultimate goal of achieving net-zero emissions across all scopes—1, 2, and 3—by 2050 or sooner.

A key driver of this progress has been Logicalis’s move toward renewable energy. In fiscal year 2024, the company successfully transitioned 11 of its operations across the UK, Germany, Spain, and Australia to renewable energy sources. Looking ahead, Logicalis has set a target to convert 75% of its global operations to renewable energy by 2025, with aspirations of reaching 100% by 2030. Further expansion into Portugal, Germany, Ireland, and the Channel Islands is planned for the next 12 months, reinforcing the company’s proactive approach to sustainability.

Bob Bailkoski, CEO of Logicalis, emphasized the critical role organizations play in tackling climate change. His statements reflect the company’s intent to not only focus on its progress but also work towards the greater good. “We believe that organisations like ours have a vital role to play in addressing climate change. We are proud of the proactive steps that we have taken, we’re evolving into the responsible business we envisioned,” he said.

Logicalis’s sustainability strategy also extends beyond its operations to its supply chain. The company is committed to ensuring that 85% of its suppliers, measured by spend, will establish science-based targets by 2028. This demand for accountability not only fosters collaboration but also propels supply chain partners toward lower carbon solutions.

Another significant aspect of Logicalis’s approach to sustainability involves addressing scope 3 emissions, particularly those associated with employee travel. A pilot program in partnership with the climate organization RouteZero resulted in a remarkable 42% reduction in group travel emissions for a select group of employees in fiscal year 2024. This success highlights the impact of strategic measures on emissions reductions, paving the way for smart travel platforms to be implemented across Logicalis’s operations.

However, the journey towards sustainability does not come without challenges. Charissa Jaganath, head of responsible business at Logicalis, noted the difficulty of balancing commercial growth with emission reductions. “One of the most significant challenges we face as a business is continuing to reduce our scope emissions whilst also driving commercial growth. Despite this, sustainability remains a priority at Logicalis,” she explained. This acknowledgment of the complexities in achieving sustainability amidst growth serves as a vital reminder to businesses in all sectors.

Logicalis is also engaging in community-focused initiatives as part of its responsible business strategy. From FY22 to FY24, the company invested over $500,000 in community projects aimed at enhancing access to STEM education and technology skills, particularly for women and minority groups. This commitment has helped 1,400 individuals gain important skills in 2024 alone.

In addition, Logicalis allocated $1.9 million toward employee career development, emphasizing the importance of training and accreditation. All employees completed mandatory environmental, social, and governance (ESG) training, empowering them to contribute actively to the company’s sustainability goals.

As Logicalis continues its journey, it remains focused on collaboration and measurable impact, signaling a concerted effort to lead by example. The alignment between the company’s business objectives and sustainability targets illustrates the potential for integrating responsible practices across all aspects of operations.

In conclusion, Logicalis’s 2024 Responsible Business Report highlights significant achievements in the realm of sustainability, demonstrating that a commitment to environmental responsibility can coexist with successful business growth. Companies looking to improve their sustainability profiles can draw valuable insights from Logicalis’s methodologies and achievements, ultimately benefiting both their bottom line and the planet.
