New York Macy’s mall home to Wetzel’s Pretzels location

by Valery Nilsson

The Macy’s Queen Center Mall in New York is set to feature a new location of Wetzel’s Pretzels, operated by the seasoned Ricky Alam. With over 20 years in the business, Alam boasts nine franchises across Southern California and four units in New York and New Jersey. This expansion is timely, as it reflects an increasing trend among retail spaces to enhance the customer experience through culinary offerings.

In a recent press release, Alam expressed excitement about this new venture, stating, “Like many, I have fond memories of enjoying soft pretzels with my family. It’s a signature experience when out shopping, and this partnership makes it easier to get a snack on-the-go.” Wetzel’s Pretzels has become synonymous with tasty, made-to-order snacks, appealing particularly to shoppers looking for a quick bite while navigating busy malls.

Brock Holloway, the store manager at Macy’s Queen Center, echoed this sentiment. “Food enhances the shopping experience, and this new addition provides shoppers with a tasty treat to elevate their visit to Macy’s,” he noted. This perspective is supported by research indicating that food offerings can significantly influence customer satisfaction and retention in retail environments.

As retailers face the challenge of attracting foot traffic, incorporating food options like Wetzel’s Pretzels can serve as a distinctive draw. With recent strategies announced by Macy’s, which include closing around 150 locations while expanding Bloomingdale’s and Bluemercury stores, this collaboration symbolizes a strategic pivot toward enhancing in-store experiences.

This new Wetzel’s Pretzel location not only contributes to the mall’s diversity of offerings but also highlights the importance of combining retail and dining to foster a more engaging shopping atmosphere. As consumer preferences lean towards experiential shopping, initiatives like this illustrate how food service can heighten customer experience and drive retail success.
