Dollar General is enhancing its board of directors with the recent appointment of Kamy Scarlett, who holds the position of senior executive vice president of human resources, corporate affairs, and Best Buy Canada at Best Buy Co., Inc. This addition, effective August 12, increases the total number of board members at Dollar General to ten. Scarlett will play a vital role on both the compensation and human capital management committee, alongside the nominating, governance, and corporate responsibility committee.
Michael Calbert, chairman of Dollar General, expressed enthusiasm for Scarlett’s appointment, citing her extensive experience in the retail sector over the past thirty years. He highlighted that her expertise in human resources and corporate affairs will be instrumental in achieving the company’s strategic goals and growth plans.
Scarlett’s career trajectory includes a notable tenure at Best Buy, where she began in 2014. She has occupied several key leadership roles, including chief HR officer, and served as executive vice president of Best Buy Canada from January 2020 to May 2023. Before her time at Best Buy, Scarlett held leadership positions at Grafton-Fraser Inc., Loblaw Companies Limited, Hudson’s Bay Company, and Dylex Limited.
As of May 3, Dollar General operates over 20,149 stores across the United States and Mexico, ranking 17th on Progressive Grocer’s 2024 PG 100 list of leading food and consumables retailers in North America. This strategic board expansion is expected to bolster the company’s operational framework, especially in human resources and corporate governance.
