Walmart-owned Flipkart has officially launched its quick commerce service, ‘Flipkart Minutes,’ in Bengaluru, marking its entry into the competitive fast-delivery market. This new service promises to deliver essential items such as groceries, electronics, and smartphones within an impressive timeframe of 8 to 16 minutes in select localities, including Belandur and HSR. This swift service positions Flipkart against established competitors like Swiggy’s Instamart, Zomato’s Blinkit, and BigBasket’s BB Now.
This launch follows a trial phase limited to Flipkart’s employees and reflects the company’s strategy to adapt to rapidly changing consumer preferences. To support this initiative, Flipkart plans to establish approximately 100 dark stores throughout the city. These mini warehouses will facilitate quick fulfillment of customer orders, positioning Flipkart to handle the anticipated surge in demand during the upcoming festive season.
Industry critics view this launch as a significant move towards capturing a larger slice of the growing quick commerce sector. For instance, Zomato aims to expand its Blinkit dark store count to 2,000 locations by 2026, and competitors like Zepto and Swiggy have also announced ambitious expansion plans. The race for dominance in the ultra-fast delivery market is heating up, with major players ramping up their operational capabilities. As Flipkart scales its service, consumer expectations for speed and convenience will be a pivotal theme in the coming months.
