High festive sales pitch sets tempo for temp hiring; demand to surge 15-20% YoY

The festive season is generating a remarkable surge in temporary job opportunities, with industry experts predicting the creation of between 600,000 and 700,000 roles across various sectors. This represents a year-on-year increase of 15-20% in demand for temporary staff, spurred by rising consumer spending, a recovering rural economy, and a strong stock market.

Leading staffing firms such as Quess, Randstad, and TeamLease Services report that e-commerce and logistics sectors are expected to witness the highest demand, with temporary hiring increasing by 30-35%. This uptick aligns with the festive shopping period, where consumer spending typically rises as people prepare for celebrations such as Raksha Bandhan, Diwali, and Christmas.

According to Lohit Bhatia, president of Quess Corp, the anticipation of new product launches and promotional schemes encourages companies to ramp up their workforce. The demand for roles is vast, covering customer service, warehousing, and delivery personnel, particularly within tier-2 and tier-3 cities.

E-commerce is leading the charge, driven by increasing online sales, while sectors like BFSI are also enhancing their temporary staff to meet heightened loan application demands during the festive season. This trend is not only driving employment but also reflecting a burgeoning consumer economy ready to engage as the year progresses.
