Perdue Issues Nationwide Recall After Finding Metal Wire in Chicken Nuggets

Perdue Foods LLC has initiated a voluntary recall of over 167,000 pounds of frozen chicken products after reports surfaced about metal wire found within some packages. The issue came to light following consumer complaints that led Perdue to alert the Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS). Jeff Shaw, the Senior Vice President of Food Safety and Quality at Perdue, indicated that the metal wire was unintentionally introduced during the manufacturing phase. To prioritize consumer safety, the company decided to recall all affected products.

The recall affects specific varieties of chicken breast tenders and nuggets, including Perdue Simply Smart Organic Gluten Free Chicken Nuggets and Butcher Box Organic Frozen-Cooked Chicken Nuggets. All products involved in the recall display the establishment number “P-33944” on their packaging, with a “Best If Used By” date of March 23, 2025.

Fortunately, no illnesses or injuries have been directly associated with these products. Customers who possess the recalled items can seek a full refund by contacting Perdue Foods at 866-866-3703 or by completing the online consumer inquiry form.

This incident is not isolated; In late 2023, Tyson Foods also recalled chicken nuggets due to similar issues with metal fragments. Such recalls underscore the critical importance of quality control in food production. Perdue Foods, headquartered in Salisbury, Maryland, boasts a diverse protein portfolio, which includes esteemed brands like Niman Ranch and Coleman Natural. The company remains committed to maintaining food safety standards that reassure consumers as they navigate their grocery options.
