This innovative service is currently operational in six states: Arkansas, Missouri, New York, Nevada, South Carolina, and Wisconsin, with plans to expand to a total of 49 states by the end of January 2025. Customers planning their shopping trips can use Walmart’s app or website to manage their orders more efficiently. A recent survey revealed that 55% of Walmart customers desired a system where groceries and prescriptions could be delivered in one go. Walmart’s Pharmacy Delivery service allows customers to add their prescriptions alongside other products during online shopping. This can be done through both the app and the website. The service will offer various delivery options, including:

1. Same-Day Scheduled Delivery: Customers can specify a time that works for them to receive their pharmacy delivery.
2. On-Demand and Express Delivery: These options allow prescriptions to be delivered within hours, or even as quickly as 30 minutes with Express Delivery.

Insurance plans will apply seamlessly to transactions, akin to the process when picking up prescriptions in-store. As Tom Ward, EVP and chief e-commerce officer at Walmart U.S., explained, the added convenience of delivering over-the-counter medicines with groceries could ensure that customers receive all they need to help them feel better when they are ill.

Pharmacy Delivery can accommodate both new prescriptions and refills, with all medications verified by licensed pharmacists in accordance with medical prescriptions. Furthermore, Walmart has implemented stringent measures to ensure the security of these deliveries, including tamper-evident packaging and real-time tracking via the Walmart app. Upon delivery, customers will receive photo confirmation, ensuring peace of mind.

Walmart+ members will enjoy free delivery on Pharmacy Delivery, while non-members will incur a standard delivery fee of $9.95. This strategy is part of Walmart’s broader e-commerce push that has seen the company continue to thrive as one of the top food retailers. In fiscal year 2024, Walmart reported revenues of $648 billion and employed around 2.1 million associates worldwide.
