Wegmans to Open 1st Supermarket in Connecticut

Wegmans Food Markets is set to open its first supermarket in Connecticut at 675 Connecticut Avenue, Norwalk, in the summer of 2025. This milestone marks a significant expansion for the 100-year-old family-owned chain, which operates 111 stores along the East Coast. Notably, Wegmans secured the second position in Newsweek and Statista’s 2024 ranking of America’s Best Retailers in the Supermarkets category.

The new 92,000-square-foot supermarket promises a broad selection, including high-quality ingredients and a variety of organic options, catering to the rising demand for healthier eating. Wegmans is well-known for its restaurant-quality prepared foods and consistently competitive pricing.

Currently, Wegmans is actively hiring, aiming to employ around 500 staff members at the Norwalk location. The majority of these positions will be filled by local applicants. Full-time job seekers can apply through the company’s website or by calling their local office for details.

Recognized by Fortune magazine as the best place to work in food retail for 2024, Wegmans offers premium pay on Sundays and holidays, alongside tuition assistance through its employee scholarship program for both full- and part-time workers. As Wegmans gears up for its Connecticut launch, it also plans to open additional locations in Lake Grove, New York, and Rockville, Maryland, in 2025, with a Charlotte, North Carolina store anticipated in 2026. Wegmans continues to rank highly in industry evaluations, being named one of the ten most sustainable grocers for 2024 by Progressive Grocer.
