ShipEngine, a prominent shipping API provider, has teamed up with what3words, the innovators in location technology, to significantly enhance delivery accuracy in the UK. This strategic partnership aims to streamline online delivery processes for e-commerce platforms, retailers, and logistics providers by integrating what3words’ technology into ShipEngine’s already robust API.

What sets what3words apart is its unique system of dividing the world into 3-metre squares, each identified by a combination of three words. For example, their London headquarters can be pinpointed at ///filled.count.soap. By utilizing these precise addresses during checkout, customers are empowered to specify exact delivery locations, thereby addressing one of the most common hurdles in last-mile delivery.

ShipEngine’s API supports over 100 carriers, making it a key player in optimizing shipping operations. The incorporation of what3words enhances the accuracy and efficiency of deliveries, which is crucial given findings that 45% of UK consumers are less likely to shop with a brand after experiencing delivery issues. Rafael De La Vega, Senior VP at ShipEngine’s parent company Auctane, emphasized that this integration enables logistics partners to retrieve precise delivery information quickly, thereby improving the overall consumer experience.
