New Seasons Market, Zero Foodprint Launch Restore Northwest Grant Program

Pacific Northwest grocer New Seasons Market has partnered with nonprofit Zero Foodprint to launch the Restore Northwest Grant Program. This innovative initiative aims to support local farmers and ranchers by fostering a sustainable food economy through direct financial assistance. With funding up to $25,000 available for qualifying projects focused on improving water usage, reducing carbon emissions, and enhancing soil health, both organizations are committed to creating meaningful environmental impacts.

Athena Petty, New Seasons Market’s senior manager of sustainability, emphasized the importance of aligning sustainability with local partners’ prosperity. This program expands the supermarket’s Partner Fund, typically reserved for broader environmental projects, specifically to impact agricultural practices positively. The initiative reflects a growing understanding that sustainable farming is critical to achieving larger climate goals.

Anthony Myint, executive director of Zero Foodprint, highlighted the significance of collaboration, stating, “Through the Restore Northwest Grant Program, we’re empowering farmers and ranchers to adopt regenerative practices.” The sense of community is palpable, as over 25 vendor partners recently committed to donating 1% of their sales to kick-start the fund, raising nearly $60,000 during Earth Month.

Projects eligible for grants under the Restore Northwest program are uniquely positioned at the intersection of ecological sustainability and local economic growth, showcasing how strategic partnerships can create thriving communities. Applications are open to existing and potential New Seasons Market vendors in Oregon and Washington until September 17. This initiative not only uplifts local agriculture but also sets a precedent for grocery chains aiming to play a proactive role in environmental stewardship.
