H-E-B Searching for Texas’s Top Educators

by Valery Nilsson

As the back-to-school season gains momentum, H-E-B is putting a spotlight on educators in Texas through its annual search for outstanding public school professionals. The nomination period for the 2025 H-E-B Excellence in Education Awards has officially commenced. This initiative opens doors for all public school teachers, counselors, and principals, as well as early childhood centers and school districts across the state.

Winners are recognized for their exceptional commitment to their students and communities, receiving cash prizes along with accolades. The nomination window is open until October 7, with further application invitations expected before December 2. Jill Reynolds, H-E-B’s public affairs manager, emphasizes the critical role educators play, stating, “By nominating an educator, you are initiating a journey that can yield significant benefits not just for the school but also for the broader community.”

The selection process features a diverse panel of judges, including experienced educators and community leaders who will choose ten winners: six teachers, two counselors, two principals, an early childhood facility, a public school board, and two school districts. An awards ceremony is scheduled for May 2025, and each winning school will also receive a matching grant.

Since its inception in 2002, the H-E-B Excellence in Education Awards have distributed $14 million to finalists, winners, and their institutions. Ranking as the largest privately held employer in Texas, H-E-B operates over 435 stores and is recognized as the 15th largest food retailer in North America, with impressive sales totaling $43 billion. This awards program not only honors exemplary educators but also reinforces H-E-B’s commitment to community enrichment and educational advancement.
