Kroger Names New Mid-Atlantic President
Kroger Co. has appointed Kate Mora as the new president of its Mid-Atlantic division, succeeding the retiring Lori Raya. This significant move highlights Kroger’s commitment to leadership and operational excellence in the competitive grocery sector. Mora previously worked as VP for merchandising in the Michigan division and brings over 25 years of retail management experience to her new role.
Kroger’s Mid-Atlantic division, based in Richmond, Virginia, operates over 100 stores across five states: Virginia, West Virginia, Kentucky, Tennessee, and Ohio. With approximately 18,000 associates, this division plays a crucial role within Kroger’s vast operations, servicing millions of customers daily. Valerie Jabbar, Kroger’s SVP of retail divisions, expressed enthusiasm for Mora’s appointment, noting her strategic thinking and proven leadership record.
Mora joined the Kroger team in 2022, initially focusing on the End-to-End Fresh Produce initiative. Her extensive background also includes roles at Walmart, where she held leadership positions that emphasized talent development and enhancing customer experiences in an omnichannel environment. Her educational qualifications include a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Slippery Rock University of Pennsylvania.
As Kroger continues to grow—ranking fourth in Progressive Grocer’s 2024 PG 100—Mora’s leadership is expected to further elevate the company’s standards in customer service and operational efficiency. With this strategic appointment, Kroger is well-positioned to enhance its shopping experience and maintain its status as a leading grocery retailer in North America.
