Pick ‘n Save Providing Free Grocery Delivery at Wisconsin College

by Valery Nilsson

Milwaukee Area Technical College (MATC) is setting a new standard in student support by partnering with Pick ‘n Save and Kroger Delivery to provide free grocery delivery directly to campus. This initiative makes MATC one of the first colleges in the region to offer such a service to its students, faculty, and staff. The launch event, held on August 6, featured key leaders from the college and Kroger, emphasizing the importance of accessible food services in educational environments.

The collaboration allows students to order groceries online or via the Pick ‘n Save app before 8 a.m. on Tuesdays. With a minimum purchase of $35, users can access free delivery to the Downtown Milwaukee Campus between 2 p.m. and 5 p.m., using refrigerated trucks that ensure food safety and quality. This model particularly supports those without easy access to grocery stores, including students with children or those who may find traditional shopping environments overwhelming.

Sara Cappaert, MATC’s scholarship manager, highlighted the service’s importance for over 30,000 enrolled students, indicating its suitability for diverse lifestyles and needs. Furthermore, the Ellen and Joe Checota MATC Scholarship Program has been previously providing gift cards for groceries, showcasing a robust commitment to supporting student well-being.

Founded in 1872, Pick ‘n Save and its parent company, Kroger Co., operate over 100 stores in Wisconsin, emphasizing convenience and accessibility in the grocery sector. This new initiative aligns with Kroger’s recognition as a leader in the food retail industry, often praised for its innovative approaches to customer service and community engagement.

This strategic partnership not only enhances MATC’s commitment to student welfare but also positions Pick ‘n Save as a vital ally in addressing food accessibility challenges, fostering a healthier, more supportive academic environment.
