‘Double-digit growth for German SMEs on Amazon’

German small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) have experienced significant growth on Amazon, highlighting the platform’s pivotal role in international trade. Over the past year, these businesses achieved a remarkable 10 percent increase in cross-border sales, amassing a total of 5.5 billion euros. This growth mirrors the 10 percent rise seen in the previous year, demonstrating that established sellers on Amazon can maintain steady progress without a dramatic influx of new participants.

Amazon reports that approximately 80 percent of these German sellers are engaged in international markets, leveraging a global seller account that has been optimized for ease of use, akin to booking a holiday. The tools available, such as Fulfillment by Amazon and AI-driven translation services, empower SMEs to reach millions of potential customers worldwide.

Moreover, these SMEs are not only contributing to the digital economy but are also enhancing local employment opportunities. Their activities on the platform support about 170,000 jobs across Germany, reflecting an increase of 10,000 jobs from the previous year. This jobs boost signifies a positive ripple effect from e-commerce growth on local communities.

The scale of operations is impressive, with German companies selling over 750 million products through Amazon’s Marketplace in 2023, which translates to more than 1,400 products sold per minute. This high volume underscores the effectiveness of Amazon’s model in facilitating swift sales and reaching diverse markets.

Overall, the continued double-digit growth of German SMEs on Amazon points to a successful strategy where small businesses can thrive in the global marketplace using robust digital tools.
